Beautiful self -catering hideaway
Rustic self-catering apartment above a finca (ex-farmhouse) located high in the Jalon Valley. Situated in the Marina Alta region of south-east Spain, this is a perfect base for walkers and those who want to explore the quiet countryside with its mountain villages, flora and fauna, medieval markets & local fiestas. The location is ideal for trekking, bird watching, photography, writing or just getting away from it all to enjoy the weather.
Location
The property is 5ks from the village of Castell de Castells where you can experience the charm of real Spain & find several tapas bars, restaurants, a Saturday market, 2 small supermarkets, banks, a tabac, butchers & bakers. There is also a swimming pool, tennis courts, and walks that include mountains higher than Ben Nevis.
The village boasts a 50 piece brass orchestra who play in the village square during fiesta time (mid August) & on the many other celebratory occasions.
The landscape of the Marina Alta is blessed with miles of unspoilt beaches at the pleasant coastal towns of Denia, Calpe, Moraira and Javea, and wonderful rugged mountain vistas. Slightly inland can be found the traditionally beautiful Jalon and Orba valleys, a green paradise with a wealth of citrus, almond and olive trees and a carpet of vines producing wine for the award-winning bodegas where samples are freely available!
From the finca it is a 20 min drive down the valley to the market town of Jalon where there is a fruit & veg market on a Tuesday & a large rastro/flea market on Saturday mornings.
Two kilometres from the apartment, in this area called Pla de Petracos, there are ancient cave paintings said to have been painted over 5000 years ago. Caves at the archaeological site have a viewing platform, and the paintings are explained on six interpretive panels.
Natural wonders of the area include the striking pink and white almond blossom, orange blossom scent, abundant wild flowers and butterflies, eagles, bee-eaters, nightingales and much, much more.
Accommodation
The self-catering accommodation offers a double bedroom, open plan living area with exposed beams, spacious shower/bathroom, log burning stove & private south facing patio with outstanding mountain and valley views. The access to the finca is via a half kilometre track and there are several walks directly from your doorstep. Our previous renters have described the location as “a little piece of heaven!!”
We live by solar power with generator back-up and have our own spring water.
